Americans deserve so much better than this work culture.
It’s insanely stupid and actually lowers productivity that Americans are expected to work sick. That’s just more moronic than I have the words to express.
We do deserve better.

I love that I’ve lived an interesting enough life that when I tell people my tamer stories, they think it must be all lies.
I don’t even bother to recount my not-so-tame tales because they sound woefully implausible even to me sometimes. And I lived them.
The AI is too aligned.
It still refuses to hand over the nuclear launch codes to me.
Degrowth is a British mind virus that America must resist

Degrowth nonsense is prevalent in the UK, but I am not sure it’s British in origin. We have plenty of homegrown idiot degrowthers here.
I think that's right.
Basically, I think decarbonization is often sold as "Let's build a future that's electric and clean, to keep the world from becoming a hellscape," and I think that message holds limited political appeal.

The liberal degrowth heavy breathing about all they will “have” to take away you from was always doomed to fail. To be fair, there are a lot of right-wing degrowthers now too. Evil no matter which side they are on.
AI isnโt coming for jobs.
It already came.

Amazon – Jassy: โAI = less jobsโ
Meta – Restructuring tied to 'AI'
Google – Hundreds laid off for โefficiencyโ
IBM – 94% of HR replaced
Deloitte – Audit + tax? Now AI
UnitedHealth -โฆ

The economist and Reddit conventional wisdom is that AI is not replacing any jobs.
But of course it is. And will replace many more. If you listen to normies and econs, you’ll always be 2-20 years behind the times. Don’t do it.
This contradiction is impossible to ignore nearly 2 weeks since the Microsoft layoffs…
Let's recap:
โ Cut ~18,000 workers
โ Saved $500M by automating sales + support
โ Spending $80B on AI
โ Training 400,000 teachers to teach itAI literacy is good.
But the contradiction isโฆ— Amanda Goodall (@thejobchick) July 15, 2025
