One of the reasons I make a terrible coder is parts of it are too much like math for me. And by that I mean, even in my own code after I create it, despite leaving comments after a bit I completely forget how it works and why I did something. If it has been more than a couple of weeks, it’s like I’ve never seen any of it before.
I’ve re-written my own scripts from scratch before because I could not remember well enough how the old version worked. I have the same experience with math. Once I learn something, it doesn’t build as it apparently does for most people. I just forget it completely in a week or two. It’s like I never knew it. No matter how much I study, it all disappears posthaste.
My brain apparently is just not set up to retain things like that. Language, though. Not a problem.

Basically, we should be nearly zero tolerance for adult offenders and put people in jail for a long, long time on the first offense. I don’t mean for something like shoplifting. I mean for any violent crime and for repeat offenders who commit property or other crimes. Even for those who are “just” harassing or hassling others, we should be pretty punitive. The whole liberal shtick of, “The poor downtrodden vagrant should get a few free sexual assaults and murders to make him feel better” just doesn’t fly with most people. I don’t give a shit what fake racial disparities it causes. As they used to say, if you can’t do the time don’t do the crime. We need to get back to that and away from the liberal nonsense of, “Having a young woman or two raped and murdered is a small price to pay for a vagrant not to experience a micro-aggression.”
Getting it wrong by arresting the wrong person sometimes is worth it to avoid animals running loose making the world worse for everyone.

It’s weird that even saying “India” these days is considered racism. But it’s just a fact: many American jobs have been sent to India. Many more will be sent there. There’s nothing racist about that.
You know you’ve left the path of wisdom when easily-observable facts can no longer be stated plainly for risk of censure.
I’ve noticed this phenomenon more widely! And I think it has to do with generational differences. Cloistered Gen Z — because they never do or experience anything — believes nothing ever happens because that is their life: sit in front a screen, inhale AI and TikTok slop, never go out, never face the world and its trials and tribulations. Every day is the same. So anything that is more than that seems wildly implausible to them.
Older generations who have not been screen-locked and helicopter-parented their entire lives have been enmeshed in the wide panoply of human experiences and know how wildly varied the world can be. So things that happen quite frequently seem totally normal to them.
I truly do think that’s what is occurring.
