The destruction and diminution is imperative for the neoliberal project to succeed. If there is no non-corporate media, there is no critique. No critique, and it’s harder for society to reject the neoliberal order. Partially this is desperation. Partially it is as near as conspiracy as one can get without actual meetings of cabals and the like — just the rich and the powerful looking out for themselves.
