Gloved

I groaned when I saw the title of this โ€œetymologyโ€ post on Treehugger, as a great deal of etymology is garbage. And the first one is exactly that:

Foxglove has not the first thing to do with fairies. This is some false etymology from the 1800s sometime. The โ€œgloveโ€ just means nearly the same thing that โ€œdigitalisโ€ means โ€” that its blossoms could fit over a finger. โ€œFoxโ€ is just a common English name for herbs and plants for which the origin is lost.

By the way, the German name of the plant is โ€œfingerhutโ€ which literally means โ€œfinger hat.โ€
