The Myth of โ€˜Iโ€™m Bad at Math.โ€™ Basic ability in the subject isnโ€™t the product of good genes, but hard work.

Almost certainly wrong for most people. Unfortunately, contra liberal comfort beliefs โ€œhard workโ€ is not enough for many people โ€” though itโ€™s not all genetics, of course. Development environment, brain injuries (including from lead), and other factors mean that not everyone is endowed with enough ability to perform well in math.

There is certainly nothing more I couldโ€™ve done to be any better at this and there are many people like me out there. The โ€œhard workโ€ myth is a pervasive one, though. But there is only so much time in the day, and only so much ability people have. Thatโ€™s a hard truth, but the way it is.
