But it seems wildly easier to get society to spend 5% of GDP for a while switching over its energy infrastructure, than it would be to reach an agreement to more than halve our incomes.

The latter will never happen. Never. So the former is the choice. This isn’t even a false choice because there aren’t two choices.

It’s the first choice or nothing.
