It's like the inverse of Faulty Generalization. Refusal to generalize because you found an outlier.

Scientists are very bad about this and also tend to have a refusal to generalize because the variation occurs along some spectrum, therefore “everything is really the same.” Well, no, it’s not. That’s just asinine. But I’ve heard many scientists with apparent normal brain functioning claim this.
