What's most striking about the present moment to me is that there's still a total absence of fresh ideas. There might be a economic cataclysm or a major war but I'm pretty sure we'd come out the other side with the exact same problems we have now.

I’ve discussed this with several people recently. I thought Covid would alter more than it did. Instead we came out the other side worse off, stupider, but with all the same problems and a few more to boot. Unless there is a nuclear war, I’m guessing the same thing will happen as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and our responses to it.

Why such lack of change, even with momentous events? We’re in a strange time where the old will just not perish or even slightly transform, no matter how much it really should.
