It was heartbreaking to visit Portland, Ore., on my last and recent trip.

I've never witnessed street persons in living conditions like this.

All across Portland this is a common sight now.

How did America get to this point?

I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet, but a lot of American cities are going downhill fast. And it’s going to get worse.

(And no, I don’t mean by the presence of homeless people. I mean that it’s obvious that the pandemic and related closures/restrictions made a lot of cities just decide they could give up on providing vital public services, so they stopped doing so. And this shows no signs of reversing.)
