The “merit” argument against affirmative action always bums me out bc, having taught in colleges at extremely different ends of the selectiveness spectrum, the “merit”that concentrates in elite spaces is almost totally reducible to “knowing how the game is played”

I’ve found this too, though it took actually experiencing it to believe it. Ivy League people really aren’t smarter. Not at all. It might even be the opposite.

But damn, they sure do know what boxes to tick.
