In the first part of the film, Palmer Joss talks to Ellie without prompting in public and without knowing her, is flirty, and asks her to dinner within a few minutes of meeting her. Back in 1997 that sort of thing was normal. In these benighted times that’d be abuse and harassment and people would be talking some crazy shit about how “I almost got sex trafficked in the café.”
