My hypothesis about this is that because masking has an obvious visual signifier itโs far easier to have identity formation around this. Also, because itโs โeasyโ and low-cost that makes it much more likely to get wrapped up in culture-warring. On the other hand, paid sick leave is a difficult political fight that confers no status benefits, has no conspicuous identifier that signals oneโs virtue, and does not often directly benefit PMC libs โ so most of them donโt give a rip about it.
