Calling something a “moral panic” these days just means, “This is probably true and that makes me uncomfortable, so I don’t want think or hear about it.” You can particularly see that lately with concern about smartphones being called a moral panic when all the evidence points pretty clearly to their harms. Addicts just need their fix.
