Ann-a Kata

What do you do when Ann Coulter is 95% correct?

โ€œ[Feminism is] totally a class thing. Feminism is about upper-middle class women who went to Smith or Wellesley and are supported by their husbandsโ€ฆ they [donโ€™t care] about people who work at Walmart,โ€ Coulter says.

Thatโ€™s a valid critique. There is no lie there, at least about mainstream, Amandaย  Marcotte-style feminism, which is almost all visible feminism.

    ROFLMAO.

I think that describes what the Tumblr-ites call “white feminism.” Smith and Wellesley are very white. I knew a Smith alum once. B.A. in English, completely supported by her drudge of a husband who works at Microsoft, infinitely convinced of her own superiority and totally insufferable. She is a liberal racist.

I believe this Smith alum and Ann Coulter have their racism and social background in common (New Canaan, CT is very posh), except this woman expresses it more…gently.

I don’t want to say anymore, but the woman and the crowd she associated with has the maturity of a teen while having the mortgages and children of middle aged adults.
Fun fact: Margaret Mitchell dropped out of Smith. If you’ve ever read Gone With the Wind, you know they toned the racism down for the movie.

Mainstream, “I call myself a feminist” feminism is very much a white upper middle class thing.
