I wonder if the organizers of the protests against Trump at rallies in St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago and other cities are smart enough to recognize that Trump expected โ craved โ protest and violence at those rallies?
The best thing those protesters couldโve done is stayed away.
Trump and the protesters โ one side in on the plan, the other unwitting pawns โ have secured his victory most probably in those states and in the general election. Not that itโs their fault โ they just arenโt very savvy, not nearly as calculating as Trump and his campaign.
No, I am not a Trump supporter in any way but I can recognize a damn set-up when I see one.
Trump wanted his supporters and potential supporters to see a bunch of brown people fighting against โmaking America great again,โ wanted to have the media broadcast for free the imagery of โscaryโ black people taunting little old ladies for supporting Trump.
And he got it.
Good work!
You can never overstate the importance of not feeding the trolls. The civil rights movement put many hours into nonviolence training before going public with demonstrations. The bar is held higher for the left than for the right.
The Left is held to a higher bar, and at the moment instead of doing anything intelligent they are flailing around and not even avoiding the easy mistakes.
One problem is that there is no leader, no MLK, probably because any such leader would be quickly imprisoned or just outright killed.
But being leaderless, and perhaps incapable under the yoke of identity politics of even having a leader, the result will be defeat.
“But being leaderless, and perhaps incapable under the yoke of identity politics of even having a leader, the result will be defeat.”
I think that’s what they want. I have the idea that they’re uncomfortable with the idea of being adults in charge – they’re addicted to puerile rebellion and rebels need something strong to rebel against.
I’m of the school that leadership is generally overrated. If organizing Democrats is like herding cats, I see that as a feature rather than a bug. But it’s also part of the reason Democrats have to work harder than Republicans for their whatever victories they manage to wrest from the democratic process. A winning strategy has to start with a frank acceptance of that fact and a concrete plan to bring enough tactical superiority to the table to offset that disadvantage.
