No more MacBooks

Also looks like I will never buy another MacBook from Apple, either. I already wonโ€™t buy any phone with no headphone jack.

To make room for that, Apple completely got rid of the function keys thatโ€™ve been at the top of Mac keyboards for years. Physical esc key? Gone.

No physical escape key means no sale. I use that about 40 times a day.

Apple, including with their latest OS release โ€œSierra,โ€ seems to have just completely given up on pleasing anyone but their absolute stupidest users.

Donโ€™t see this as a winning strategy for them with Chromebooks and other similar fare available at far cheaper prices.

Was hoping some company would step up and offer a real workstation-class OS for pro users. Looks like itโ€™s not going to happen, though.

(And no, Linux isnโ€™t this OS. Canโ€™t even support high-DPI or mixed DPI correctly even now.)

  1. Between this and the complete cockup of Windows nth version, I haven’t bought a new laptop /computer in years. I hate not being able to shut down a program from the keyboard. Power user? My phone recently had a bad update and the phone company kept trying to encourage me to switch phones to a new model. Between no headphone jack (Apple), and models without the ability to mount SD cards(most of them) and exploding devices (Samsung), I’m holding onto my phone until I can run it into the ground.
I’m not a power user at all. What is this shit?

    • Not only are companies no longer catering to power users, they are no longer designing anything for anyone with an IQ above that of a medical cadaver.

I can’t understand it. I do think the new Surface Studio desktop hardware from Microsoft looks interesting, depending on price.

Its 192 pixel-per-inch resolution is slightly lower than that of the top-end iMac. But it compensates for this by being an inch larger than Apple’s model, as well as appearing to be substantially thinner thanks to most of the machine’s guts being placed at its base.

What that article doesn’t mention is that it has a 3:2 aspect ratio which if just great. I hate 16:9 with a passion bordering on murder-lust.

I might be willing to sacrifice a few ppi for a decent aspect ratio, as much as I love my 5K iMac.
