I think society actually needs the bleeding hearts, those afflicted with suicidal empathy. I don’t think we can do without them. We just must keep them in check, cosseted from consequences but also wielding no power. They are the conscience of society and thus vital.

But we also must have people like me, who are fine with wielding the sword. Who can do things the group would rather not know about to protect that group.

We’ve forgotten that part.
