Plausibility

Oh, bullshit. They are plausible. We just chose not to try them. Huge difference. I remember when smartphones weren’t “plausible.” I remember when CRISPR wasn’t “plausible.” And I remember when reusable rockets weren’t “plausible.”

What’s plausible is what you make happen and that does not violate the laws of physics. That’s it. That’s all.

People are really eager to keep crawling around on this rock, living and dying like savages, doomed to extinction. Idiots.

Looking Like

One time I was staying in a cabin in the Frozen North with a platonic woman friend of mine. It got unexpectedly hot — into the high 80s. The cabin was exposed to the sun so even for me it got quite sweltering during the day in there.

As we baked, she said, “I hope it won’t make you uncomfortable, but I am going to wear as few clothes as possible. I just can’t stand this heat.”

I told her she could go naked for all I cared. It’s nothing to me either way.

She replied, “I know you don’t care, but I’d be too self-conscious all the time about whether my tits looked good or not.” Which made me laugh. And I can also understand.

As it was, she was in the smallest bra and panties I think I’ve ever seen in my life. So it’s not like much was covered anyway.

(And yes, she knew I was going to put this story on my blog.)

The next day, the heat broke and we went back to not dying in that cabin. Beautiful night sky there, though. It was a fun little getaway.

No, China won’t do much if any bridge-blowing. First, it’s not a very effective tactic compared to the alternatives. Bridges are extremely strong (for obvious reasons) so it’s not actually easy to take most of them out with conventional weapons. Second, the US has an extensive road network with many alternate routes.

What China would actually do to hobble our logistics is bomb our seaports and data centers. This is much easier, much more effective, and these are vastly harder to do impromptu repairs on.
