Heh. The problem is that most people who cycle in the US are fucking insane, making it less popular than it would be if more sane people did so. (Because you have to be insane to cycle here.) So the cycle continues.
Annoying
RTO Extro
Introverts – How do yall survive work?
I was lucky to be born with a really big brain so I can get away with more than most, but I also struggled in the extrovert-dominated in-person office cultures I’ve been a part of. I just have no desire to hang out with people nothing at all like me for hours on end each day, nor engage in endless sports chats or hear someone’s opinions on politics. Or share my own.
One of the reasons RTO has been demanded is that remote work does not benefit the extroverts nearly as much. Still does, but it’s not 90/10 extroverts, only like 60/40. So they hate WFH and demand (successfully) RTO.
I don’t want to be friends with my co-workers. I just don’t, sorry. I’ll be polite and do my job, but other than that I should not be expected do anything else.
Your social needs are not my problem.
A Where
"Stuck culture" is how we're supposed to be outraged about the same Howard Stern clips we were outraged about 20 years ago. Seriously I didn't care about this guy the first time around, can we just not. https://t.co/uKZdWdgsFa

He’s much milder now, but that kinda shit happened every five minutes in his old shows. That was just…what he did. The celebrities who went on his show knew it as well. They all were aware of what they were getting into.

Google search is getting worse and worse.
What a stupid company. Doesnโt do anything well.
I guess they own YouTube. Is there anything else they have going for them?

Yes. If you rearrange the letters in their name, you can spell “Oog Gel.”
Which just sounds funny.

It’s just the usual degrowther bullshit.

I understand why IT people often have big egos.
It’s because many people think we can do god-like things that are just impossible, that violate the laws of physics and common sense.
When you realize to 99.99% of people computers are mysterious magic boxes that do things for no known reason, a lot of the dysfunction of the modern world becomes clearer.
Sis
I’m not an Oasis fan. I like one of their songs sometimes, though I haven’t listened to it in years. Not my type of band at all.
That said, this article is one more in the genre of, “Haha, men are defective women! Why can’t men be women!?!” annoying execrative diatribes common now. The whole article just drips with that condescension. I am honestly sorry I read the entire thing.
Women expect men to relate to one another how women do because that’s “better.” However, if you’ve ever been around women’s intrasexual competition and all the absolutely insane things they do to sabotage one another, you’ll know that you want no part of that. It’s not better at all.
And yes, I do know. Most of my friends are women, remember?

The Covidians are really going apeshit now that Covid is barely a threat to anyone.
Interesting phenomenon sociologically, that as the threat recedes the diehards go full Koko.
Breakage
If you are running the 24.04 Xubuntu LTS release on Hyper-V (haven’t tested anywhere else) and upgrade to the latest Ubuntu mainline kernel via the normal update channel, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Lightdm crashes on reboot and you get no GUI. To fix this, can get to a terminal with CTRL-ALT-F3 and then download the latest Linux LTS kernel with all the related packages in .deb format and do sudo dpkg -i *.deb (with all those items in the same directory) and then all will be corrected.
Annoying breakage.

The 2020s are not the 2010s…the cancel-power has shifted to the right. https://t.co/Etw34GeI9Q
— Noah Smith ๐ (@Noahpinion) August 20, 2025
This is a much more accurate take than the left/liberal asininely assclownish assertion a few years go that “cancel culture does not exist.” Of course it does and did! They were just happy because they were able to cancel people who they feel deserved it while experiencing no consequences themselves. So to them, it didn’t feel like a cancellation when they nuked somebody from orbit but rather, justice.
Now the pendulum has swung the other way as it always does, so it’s seen as a grave affront to truth and righteousness when even a minor cancellation of someone on their team occurs.
People are funny.
Slow Ride
What is your reason for taking things slow in dating when you actually like the woman?
Women believe they can smell desperation from 1,000 miles away. And sometimes they are even right. But they are extremely oversensitive to it, so they often interpret any interest as desperation. And that makes them disappear posthaste.
So contrary to clownish advice, it pays to be diffident and stand-offish with most women in the first few weeks or months. Or to take things “slow” or however you prefer to put it. Obviously, you still must be present enough to keep her interested. You can’t just ignore her. Women are going to hate this, but some effective strategies are:
- Take a long time to respond to text messages, but gradually answer more quickly
- Make a date then break it (but reschedule!)
- After the second date, make her reach out
- Hint that she’s not the only option, you’re just seeing what’s out there
After a bit, you can ease off and act more normal if you’re really into the woman. The goal here is to not trip her miscalibrated “desperation” vibe sensor, not to be cruel. Because with most women, if you don’t follow my advice above you’ll find yourself alone. Once you’ve tripped the faulty “desperation” sensor it’s over forever.
Historical Devisionism
I’ve wrote about some other version of this sentiment before, but it’s happened to me a few times. And it’s hilarious.
Like, dude, I was there. Everything you’re saying is 100% wrong. One was arguing with me about how the military operated in the 1990s. And in that case, I was quite literally there. That’s next-level dumbassery.
De-FAANGED
Interviews are getting out of hand.
10 hours of prep.
3 panel interviews.
A take-home assignment.
No response.— Amanda Goodall (@thejobchick) August 20, 2025
It wasn’t required (as in, was not an assignment), but when I interviewed at a FAANG I did around 30 hours of prep. I got the job.
I’d not do it again. I mainly just wanted to see if I could do it. That this kinda shit is becoming required for nearly every job is absurd.
