Unforumed

Why did we replace forums with Discord?

Discord is so terrible. I refuse to use that turd; it is a blight.

The short answer for why forums disappeared is that they were difficult to monetize, and that sealed their doom. Monetization and the drive to it became all that mattered as the vulture capitalists took over and extinguished all that could not be IPOed.

And that is most of the answer. But truly, fuck Discord.

Inefficient

Roughly 90% of the security meetings and consultations I have with customers are completely useless. All the questions have already been answered in provided documents and diagrams, and often also in follow-up responses. The meetings are pointless nearly all of the time.

And I have been in hundreds of those meetings, often with 30+ people on the other side1. Thirty-one people in a an hour-long meeting discussing already-provided information equals a whole lot of wasted time.

But that’s life in “efficient” corporate America!

  1. That’s the “fun” part of being a small company and dealing with Fortune 500 corps.

Room With a G

Modern feminists are so damn brain-damaged. Unlike them, I prefer to presume women have agency. If you posit something else then you are simply not a feminist.

I’m in my 40s. I’m fit and have money. And the vast, vast majority of women who express any interest in me are in their 20s. A few in their 30s. Almost zero in my own age group. Are those twenty-three-year-olds grooming me? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It’s so funny how far reality diverges from what feminists want us to believe is happening in the world.

And no, I am not doing anything about it. I love my partner, I’m tired, and I want to read my books. But if I were on the market it’d be vastly easier for me to be with a girl in her twenties than someone my own age. They are the ones who show up1!

  1. And yes, I’d gladly date a woman that age if we were compatible. Despite what you’ve read that’s what actually matters in a relationship.

Shit, homie, that’s going to happen to non-incarcerated people too. AI companions will “solve” the loneliness epidemic.

I hate the future.

By the way, the only way AI companions could make a difference to the loneliness issue is if they were like Iris in Companion. And then they’d just be people (with all the rights and responsibilities that entails), so no real solution there.

I saw some dippy clown the other day “proving” there was no loneliness epidemic with her little science spreadsheets. And it was so cute! But of course she’s wrong. Your little science spreadsheets show you almost nothing of use here.

Get McClued In

Yes, all of you need to shut up and read McLuhan! You’re all constantly and usually vaguely-incorrectly “discovering” things he said over 50 years go. He did a much better job of it than all of you are, obviously, and a more thorough one too.

I’m constantly amazed by how culturally illiterate supposedly-literate people are.

Changing Hate

It’s nice that there is some pushback against the moronic “you just hate change” screeching that sprouted up (mostly) in the tech world as increasing enshittification of all tech products occurred and then accelerated.

Pushed at first by (mostly) paid industry shills, this absurd narrative was also embraced by self-abasing and unpaid pitiful clowns.

Yes, you stupid, stupid motherfuckers, I do in fact hate change that directly harms me. I very much do.

I think I see now why so much of the left despises this sort of transition while praising gender transition to the moon.

Getting fitter, improving yourself, is all self-directed. No one can do it for you. Other people can help a little but really it’s all on you; you lift the weight or you do not. You lose the gut or you don’t. It takes a lot of effort over time and there’s very little chance it’ll occur if you do not have motivation and will. It’s as individual as a thing can be in this world.

Gender transition, on the other hand, is something everyone else must agree on: this person is now a man/woman and if you say anything else, you’re obviously bad and evil. The left’s views on trans issues is all about being able to constrain someone to hewing to their ideology in a communitarian manner and to punish them if they dissent1.

It has eluded me until today why the left utterly despises people who get fit, but I think the above insight is a large part of it. The hatred is all because that result is an unauthorized, individual-focused and individual-driven upgrade that no one else has to consent to or agree on. And that it then increases your status enormously in society makes it all the worse (from the left’s perspective).

  1. Note that I am passing no judgment on trans people here, only on how the left conceives of defending them.

Soon, as we enter firmly into a long and grinding depression, the 1990s are going to look like even more of a belle รฉpoque.

And inevitably even more goofuses will come out of the woodwork claiming that, “It’s just because you were a kid!” Even though I and many others observing how comparatively nice was that era were full-ass adults during most of that decade. I spent half of that period as a paratrooper in the US Army, which is no one’s idea of an easy life.

It’s just another example of a basic denial of reality in service of substitution in of ideological astigmatisms.

But such is modern life.

It’s amazing that in places like Reddit clownishly incorrect comments get upvoted. It’s as if people have an allergy to anything being even vaguely right and to reality itself. Like this asinine comment.

Unemployment in the US reached 10.0% in October 2009.

I care more than anything about having the actual, real data in my mind. And being right. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong as that leads eventually to being correct. But I just cannot tolerate clueless clownishness, which is the mode most people seem to operate in.

I want no part of that which is why I do not enjoying being around people in general.
