2 In 5 Tech Workers Quit Over Inflexible Workspace Policies.

Anywhere that requires in-office work, I’ll quit right away. Attempting to work in an office reduces my productivity by 90% at least and it means I’d be sitting in a bullpen on Zoom calls with customers and vendors, rather than at home on Zoom calls with customers and vendors.

Nope, not gonna happen. I don’t care that extroverts “need” me there. Your social needs are not my responsibility nor my concern. Make some damn friends.

Groupings

True. Nevertheless, there was (and still is) a de facto flirting prohibition enforced by threat of cancellation by the dominant liberal feminist cultural consensus. That might be diminishing now, but was real for well over a decade.

In the view of that brand of pseudo-feminism, any unauthorized contact with any woman outside of a dating app was evidence of abuse and harassment. There weren’t any exceptions. “Good” men picked up on this cultural shift and stopped talking to or engaging with women in any public place at all. That therefore led to a spate of posts on Reddit and other places from women like, “I’m fun, I’m flirty, I’m decently good-looking, but no man ever talks to me. Why?” I saw at least 3-4 of those a week for years.

Well, there’s your answer. Women asked for and got this world. Turns out it sucks. Funny that.

Alg Calc

Calculus is so, so much easier than algebra. It’s crazy we spend so much time on algebra which for most is both boring and nearly useless. We should cover algebra cursorily and then jump straight into calc and stats.

I’ll never be a math whiz and I’d’ve been far better off skipping anything beyond long division altogether, but I think if I hadn’t had to suffer through three years of useless algebra I would’ve done a lot better.

I get this is compelling but theyโ€™re the medium, theyโ€™re not the message. Itโ€™s a society of men who need dealing with, on and offline www.theguardian.com/commentisfre…

Y’all need to read your McLuhan, damn. So uneducated as are most journalists. And, well, everyone. Almost.

The smartphone/social media debate is one destined to be lost by those of us who are correct about how very harmful that combination has proved to be. Of course they together are a huge cognitohazard that is most harmful to younger people. And of course we will do nearly nothing about it as all the phone addicts leap out of the woodwork with iffy studies and anecdotes because addicts always need another hit. Anything that threatens that and their “convenience” they will be sure to slap down with great vigor.

Combine that with the lack of education and comprehension of how media and messages actually work and you get clown-level crap like the Bluesky sophistry above.

Thus Malthus

My argument for the compatibility of the abundance agenda with planetary boundaries is twofold:

1.) The Malthusian trap no longer exists except in the minds of degrowthers.

2.) Green energy abundance and dense, low-VMT cities are actually a precondition of achieving net zero.

Worse than that — the degrowthers are making every effort to resurrect the Malthusian trap. It’s one of the many reasons I hate them so very much.

Searchers

One of the most confusing things about modern life. Practically every search function on a large website returns seemingly random results now.

It’s not just websites; search does not work anywhere. Not in email. Not for the local filesystem. Not in calendars or notes. And search is not all that hard, contrary to what you have been told. One developer alone writes a search tool that’s better than any other one I’ve used and works absolutely flawlessly. So it can be done.

For some reason, these companies just do not want to have working search. In most cases, I can’t even imagine why.

Defaults

Being told that you are inherently evil, a default rapist, are worthless unless acting as a human wallet and that if you have feelings, you shouldn’t does tend to push one away from the groups telling you that. Even if the groups it’s pushing you towards are not actually better.

The HR-ization of society has not been all that great for a lot of men.

Interest

It is fucking crazy.

But these days among a large cohort of Gen Z (probably the majority), any flirting is considered harassment. Again, that is ANY flirting. And people wonder why the birth rate is low. These are people who just have no idea what to do with life. They are sad and pitiful and seem content to stay that way.

Shod

Pretty insightful into the affliction shared across worldviews notionally in conflict. In reality, it is a dearth of will, an absence of the human spirit that took us from scrabbling in the mud to jetting through the sky.

I want nothing to do with any of that.

BBQ Grill

How are you dealing with your company using the IT Department as a catch-all?

This is always going to happen because the IT department has the largest single population of people who can think through a problem and follow tasks step by step. In IT, that’s maybe 40% of the people present. Nowhere near the majority, to be clear.

But outside of IT, that is maybe 1-2% of people in the average department.

Because of this, IT becomes the dumping ground anything that is more complex than folding a piece of paper in half. I’ve seen it over and over again.

I don’t foresee this ever not occurring. So IT will be assembling barbecue grills and doing training until the sun goes red giant.
