Going Aus

One of the reasons the liberals and left deservedly receive a lot of hate is that they play idiotic words and numbers games like this to “prove” how smart they are.

What a fucking assclown douchebag the guy who wrote that tardicle is. He is both falling for the “austerity” propaganda and the perfect vector for said propaganda. Here’s a clue-by-four, goofus: “austerity” was never intended to slash spending — it was always a program calculated very precisely to privatize the resources of the state, to enrich those seen as worthy with redirected government largesse and to enforce neoliberal values both in monetary and ideological terms.

Spending has nothing to do with this, other than it’s important to the neoliberal project that public funds intended for the common weal be redirected to “deserving” private ends and hands and away from public provision.

As someone in the comments points out, during this alleged time of absent austerity the NHS was gutted, uni was made vastly more expensive, and other important services were worsened greatly by diminished funding and by privatization. Which, of course, was the actual goal of austerity — and not any decrease in spending.

Are people born this stupid or does that transformation happen in college? Fuck.

I don’t know about women, but the reason men do this is that women are extremely allergic to anything with even the slightest hint of desperation. I swear, they can smell it upwind at 10,000 meters.

So if you’re a man, you have to pretend as hard as you can that you don’t really want a relationship, you’re absolutely perfect like you are, that no, you don’t even know what the word “lonely” means, thank you. And you must do that to even have a shot.

Happy Anniversary. You Suck!

From being a photojournalist and then a blogger for many years, I know that only about 10% of people will read your entire article and of those maybe 5% will understand it. And that is no matter how clearly you write or how much you stress your thesis.

So I don’t really care that much about those who “hate” me as they are hating some version of me that doesn’t exist based on an article or post they did not read fully and if they did, they did not understand.

Not my problem.

Smarts

Why, exactly, other than propaganda do people think using a terrible small smartphone is more convenient? Is it just that they find a real computer difficult to use?

I’ve never found a single thing on a phone easier or faster if I had a real computer at hand. It’s all much slower. And yes, I can use one competently.

Boom Slap

Why do older Americans take statements that basically boil down to say it is harder to financially prosper now than in the past (50s-90s) as a personal attack?

Boomers and near-Boomers are very, very worried that the younger generations might do anything at all that endangers their house prices or might cause them to pay slightly more taxes for the benefit of anyone else.

This keeps them up nights and makes them extremely defensive when anyone even barely implies that times are hard, or that younger generations have it tougher in any way than they did. Boomers want to believe that jobs are plentiful, that you can just walk into a place in the morning, shake someone’s hand and have a good, high-paying job by that afternoon.

That world, though, is long vanished — and in their hearts they know that they hoarded all the benefits and boons of a a better world for themselves while frantically pulling up the ladder behind them.

And that makes them deeply despise those scrabbling below them for the scraps they deign to toss down.

Time Lorde

Bad Songs on Great Albums.

I read this but have no real opinion on it because I do not listen to nor care about albums. But I did read it all because I love music.

This bit made me laugh:

Britney Spearsโ€™ 1998 debut album, โ€ฆ Baby One More Time, is a journey through the mind of a heartbroken teenage girl as imagined by a small team of male songwriters and producers, hailing largely from Sweden

That’s the whole problem, too, with Lorde’s albums after her first one. Stupid-ass Jack Antonoff and company took over songwriting and she lost her authorial voice. Lorde went from sounding like a tetchy, bratty but intelligent young woman to what an unimaginative and unexceptional 36-year-old man’s idealized version of what such a person would sound like.

And that worked about as well as you’d expect.

Sometimes I wonder if people cannot read or remember things they lived through. Or it’s just some sort of weird trolling or clownin’.

NATO invoked Article 5 after the 9/11 attacks — the only time it’s ever done so. Many NATO nations supported the US afterward as a result of that article’s invocation. That’s what it fucking means, damn.
