Uninformed and Unradiant

That there is no such thing as genius is how pitifully mediocre people convince themselves they could’ve been Claude Shannon or Marie Curie if they’d been in the right place at the right time.

But it’s a lie. A coping mechanism. The unfortunate reality that makes lefties white-hot with rage is that some people are just vastly smarter and infinitely better at some things. As my dad said once when I got annoyed that my sister had far more inborn prowess for music than I did, “Talent sits where it sits.”

Genius is real. And rare.

Algo Alstay

AGI is Mathematically Impossible 2: When Entropy Returns.

Wow this paper is a mess. It’s terrible, though I know it will be widely-cited as “true.” I linked to the HN discussion because the author is rightly being roasted in the comments.

Authoring a complete response and rebuttal would take far more time than I wish to spend on this pointless and thankless task, but this is what it looks like when a STEM-y person attempts to poorly engage in philosophical thinking without realizing they are doing it or understanding any of it.

And it’s simultaneously amusing and secondhand embarrassing.

Left Two Behinds

That does seem to be their plan. They are already clownishly irrelevant. In some ways, the modern left has become some weird offshoot of traditional conservatism — except they want gay people to get married and think men and women are exactly the same, except when they are completely different (trans stuff).

No Future

Future of Tech in the US?

Extremely bad. Absolutely do not go into tech now. It is going to be gutted. If you’ve got 15+ years in and you’re senior now, you’ll probably be ok. Otherwise, avoid at all costs. Choose any other major and/or field.

Everything in tech is going to be disposed of, outsourced, converted to AI, murdered by MBAs who understand nothing and care only about the next quarter and their bonus. It’s happening now and it’s only going to get worse. There is zero future in tech.

Ham

Hamas? It’s Israel’s Leaders Who Are Hiding Behind Civilians Again.

I see someone has never been to a city before. Lord. And they’ve definitely never been to Tel Aviv (I have!).

FUCKING CHRIST MILITARY HEADQUARTERS ARE ALMOST ALWAYS IN BIG CITIES WHERE EVERY-FUCKING-THING ELSE IS TOO.

Jesus fuck people are godawful stupid.

The Pentagon is only a few hundred meters away from a playground, a Costco, and a Whole Foods. And other stuff. Of course. Because the Pentagon is — check this out — near where people live!

Do people even think for a single second about the wacky-ass crap they come up with?

All a Game

Ladies, serious question: why do some of yโ€™all get upset when your man is gaming, but spending 3+ hours scrolling TikTok is somehow different? Isnโ€™t that just your version of a hobby? Why not do something you enjoy while heโ€™s doing his thing?

This seems common. I’m not even a gamer, but a past horrible girlfriend would get enraged that I spent 45 minutes (about as long as I ever spent as I get migraines after that) playing Unreal Tournament. Meanwhile, she would spend 6-7 hours straight on eBay.

When called out on it she’d say that, “It’s different.” Different, how? In UT, I spent zero money. She spent thousands on eBay and other sites like that.

So glad I’m done with terrible partners.

AI AI Oh

Exactly. Everyone on both sides of the debate is so solipsistic that no one talks about what’s actually happening. And what’s actually occurring is (as usual) all I care about.

The question, “Does AI act and think exactly like a human?” is idiotic. Clown-level thinking. “Does a submarine swim like a fish?” Who gives a fuck? The doofshit left is so concerned with calling AI a “plagiarism machine”and retrenching corporate copyright power in an extremely poorly-considered rearguard action against AI that they never even consider what’s really in store for the future or even what’s happening right under their always-upturned noses.

The real question is, “To what extent will AI replace human labor?” And, “What are the consequences of AI use, in the politico-economic sense and socioculturally?” (Etc.)

AI and all the implications and complications thereof is not going away. The Bluesky clowns can screech all they like about their poorly-conceptualized understanding of plagiarism and how AI works but the incontestable fact is that AI is here and MBAs are going to use it even where it makes zero sense. That is now inevitable (absent Butlerian Jihad).

Time to deal with it like adults, not like whiny petulant children.

Control Plane

I’m sure it’s true sometimes, but the primary reason older men are interested in dating women in their 20s is not that they want to control them, it’s just because that’s the only population of women in the US at least where 90% of them aren’t horribly obese.

It’s really just as simple as that. Why search so hard for a complex, ridiculous explanation when the straightforward, real explanation is just right there?
