Steps

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but working in IT has taught me that people are generally… really dumb?

What I’ve run into is that most people cannot read. And by that I mean that they are functionally illiterate. I’d say that’s true of about 90% of people. They can see words and sort of connect them but don’t really know what they mean in any larger, cohesive sense; there is no gestalt that ever forms.

And the second problem is that hardly anyone can follow step-by-step directions at all. Of the users I’ve supported over the years, maybe 5% of them could correctly complete anything with more than 3-4 steps to produce the expected end result.

So, combine functional illiteracy with the related inability to follow any sort of procedure reliably and it’s amazing anything gets done at all.

Cop

That statement of Butler’s is fully of dumbassery, sure, but in my experience most people are only smart in one or two areas, if that. The rest they are just utter blithering idiots, less clueful than even the average kindergartner.

Exceptional people are knowledgeable in a dozen or so. I am one of those.

And really absurdly nonpareil amazingly exceptional people are knowledgeable and capable in dozens of different fields. There are only a few of those who have ever lived. Archimedes was one. John von Neumann was another. There aren’t many more, really.

So, yeah, most people are complete dumbasses other than in the area on which they are laser-focused.

It’s Not Jenna

Why do frumpy/dumpy unemployed 62-year-old men and women think some young hot celebrity or any celebrity is into them? I think I’m more attractive than average and if “Jenna Ortega” contacted me and claimed she needed me to be her full-time lovin’ man I wouldn’t doubt for a single second it’s a scam. It would not even occur to me that it was real. The only way I’d believe it is if Jenna literally showed up at my door and presented me with two forms of photo ID and even then I’d be suspicious for a long while afterward.

So what in the hell is going on there?

Pentagon Is Not On the ISS

Well that’s a huge bit of dumbassery. Military and intelligence HQs are a very, very different thing from Hamas holding non-combatant hostages in civilian homes and caching weapons in the basements of hospitals. Can these absolute clowns not see how that is completely different?

And just wait till they find out where the Pentagon is, LOL:

Probably 99% of intelligence and military HQs in the world are in “civilian areas.” This is sophistry of the most shit-for-brains degree.

Holodomor

It is a FUCKING INSANE idea that when a country decides to invade another one, that the invaded country should allow it to happen, and just surrender to preserve life and property. Most often (as with Russia attempting to conquer Ukraine) the invasion is for the purpose of genocide, theft and destruction. It seems, though, that Russia supporters are the only ones spouting that sort of nonsense these days. And of course they do not claim the same thing about the native people of North America — that is, no one is saying that they should’ve just meekly surrendered to the British, Spanish et al. and hoped for the best.

Clownish hypocrites, every single one of them. Russia also wishes to take Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and most of all, Poland. Should that just be allowed? That’s all good? Those countries should just go ahead and surrender now? Jesus Fucking Christ. Also, if China decides it wants North America, we should just say, “OK, we surrender?” That just allows anyone who plays by jungle rules to do whatever they want. Is that really a world we want to live in. I. Do. Fucking. Not. How can anyone’s brain get this broken?

Not that long ago, Russia got what it wanted in Ukraine and this happened.

The idea that the minute any country acts hostile to another one, the country experiencing the hostile actions should just expose their belly is, again, FUCKING INSANE.

Morality

Anyone who supports Russia in the war against Ukraine is a moral monster and really should go over and participate in one of Putin’s meat waves.

Those are also the same ignoramuses who believe sinking a civilian ship is fine, but it’s a war crime to attack enemy troops with legal weapons. Not only are they morally repugnant, they are really fucking dumb. Terrible combination.

Def Clo

A lot of people’s definition of a war crime seems to be, “That makes me uncomfortable” or “That sounds bad.”

Which, well, ok. But it don’t make you right. Just clownish, which is a state many people are content to be in nearly full-time apparently.

Magein’

I think that is the Reddit (and other places’) problem with denial of already-extant realities encapsulated pretty well. Most are (like people in general) low-information, low-knowledge individuals so when they can’t imagine how something works, even if it’s already widely used, they declare it “impossible.”

And since they can’t imagine or understand much, many things are declared not to be achievable despite their long-standing existence.

Run Water

Degrowth is clownish. And every time anyone criticizes degrowth, there’s the perfunctory “that’s not the good kind of degrowth” response. Yet any time I see anyone point to the so-called “good kind” of degrowth, it’s just like the above, except they want to take away your refrigerator and running water too.

I believe degrowth is like communism. There is some mythical version done correctly, but no one has ever seen it nor will they ever.
