About Iryna

I realized a lot of the left was actively evil (as much as a lot of the right is, to be clear) when Iryna Zarutska was murdered. Here was the “perfect” victim: A refugee from an actual war who’d come to the US trying to make a better life for herself. She was attending college while working, attractive, and riding public transit as a good (in their mind) person should. She was the exemplar of what should be living the American dream — if the left just simply did not want to destroy America.

And their response to her brutal and heartbreaking slaughter was either crickets or, “Just what pretty white women deserve” or “It’s worth some level of sacrifice like Iryna so that wandering meth-heads can make up for their oppression” or “Doing anything to make sure people like Iryna get to live is racist.” And similar.

Man, fuck them. I’d trade one Iryna for every last one of their clown asses.

Presence Passed

Nothing the left has done has been more despicable than their whole, “If you don’t want to let the crackhead set you on fire, stab you, or sexually assault you as a special treat, you don’t belong in a city!” And unfortunately, I am only exaggerating a little there.

I hope the ghost of Iryna Zarutska strangles them all in their sleep. Slowly.

CA FL

The Dream of a Florida Retirement Is Fading for the Middle Class.

In only a short time Florida got extremely expensive. It used to be vastly cheaper than California. Now it’s only slightly cheaper, comparing like-for-like areas, etc. And yes, I do know; I’ve now lived in both places.

One of the things I liked about Florida-that-was is that it was one of the few places in the country where lower-middle-class people and the rich lived right next to each other1. Up until about 10 years ago there, that was widely true. Now neighborhoods like that have mostly disappeared.

Too bad. I liked the old Florida better.

  1. A colleague of mine from the UK commented on this, and that it reminded him of Australia in that respect

Maytag

This is completely apart from my opinions on AI. I just hate hypocrites, so: Any clown idiot who went full copyright maximalist after the advent of modern AI, I will do everything to make sure I never give you a single cent ever and attempt to prevent anyone else from doing so as well.

You’re worse than pond scum. You deserve to live in that refrigerator box by the side of the road that’s in your future.

Degrow All Over

I’m not sure that’s quite right. I mean, certainly, the phenomenon occurs but the etiology of this sociocultural disease is not quite the correct one for either the right or the left.

For libs, it’s the desire to performatively signal that you’re against anything or anyone exceptional or that will contribute in any way to climate change (which they are usually wrong about anyway). For the right, being degrowth means you are for tradition and returning to some mythical past. Also usually performatively, as the right-wing degrowther neither understands the past they wish to retreat to nor the current aim of any project or idea.

And the libertarians are just being even worse clowns than those two because anything that has a hint of “government” in it they automatically despise; they prefer to be oppressed by corporations.
