Indeed. I grew up in North Florida, among a whole passel of North Florida meth-heads. And I can tell a North Florida meth-head on sight in about 0.00001 seconds. Other people marvel at this skill. And I’m always right.

A civil war in the current United States would not look at all like what people imagine, or the Civil War from 1861-1865.
It’d manifest more like the Rwandan Genocide combined with the political violence of the late 1960s and 1970s. Mostly, it’d be right-wingers killing Democrats, liberals and leftists with some retaliatory attacks going the other way “justifying” the attempted purge.
It might turn into a wider war, but that’d require geographical sorting that I find unlikely. Even most red cities are ~35%+ blue for instance.
So it’d be nasty. And long-running. And you would not like it. The economy would crash and food shipments would be disrupted. Some areas would starve in the worst cases.
But it’s certainly possible. I give the above scenario a 15% chance in the next decade, which is way way too much.
Good cities can’t exist without public order.

Meanwhile, someone like Iryna is worth 10,000 Decarlos Browns. Not because she was young and pretty, but because she actually had something to contribute to the country and to the world. Which she was doing. For instance, she’d just come from her job at a pizzeria when she was murdered by some worthless gutter scum. Decarlos’s main “job” seemed to be theft and killing innocent young women.
I’d gladly put every dude like Decarlos (and most of them are dudes) in some camp somewhere in the middle of nowhere if it preserved the life of one Iryna. The liberal, “Some stabbing and random immolation is the price of living in a city and if you disagree you’re a Nazi” is just not flying with people anymore.

I agree that progressivism has gone down a terrible path. They feel more empathy for hardened criminals and violent vagrants than for the people they maim and kill, hate their own civilization, support degrowth, and would annihilate all the things that make life worth living without even really understanding what they are doing.
What I disagree about, though, is that progressivism must be this way. Obviously this is false because in the past, progressivism was something very different. It actually did point to progress, to space exploration, to the advance of science and civilization, and to to raising up all people. Instead, now, it attempts to lower us all, trades away the rights of women and girls to nearly-demonic third-world hordes, and believes we should all be living in mud huts with no running water, no modern conveniences, and definitely no air conditioning.
It could be something else but now it chooses not to be. Maybe one day it will decide to get back on the right path, but it’s not looking too hopeful at the moment.
