QR

Even the interns fresh out of college with comp-sci majors struggle with troubleshooting basic issues that can be fixed by uninstalling/reinstalling apps or updating drivers.

I had a developer just yesterday who couldn’t figure out how to scan a QR code. A fucking developer. I had to walk him through it like he was seven years old.

Not my job, by the way. Not even remotely. Younger millennials and Gen Z just do not know how to use computers, no matter their occupation.

RTOZ

RTO for the โ€œcultureโ€ – employee dead in office for 4 days.

I had that same thought yesterday. Can almost guarantee she was pushed to RTO because “it’s important to be seen in the office.” Well, no one saw her dead for four goddamn days.

Almost all the people who have been forced to RTO go in and sit on Zoom calls with people in other offices. It’s all a sham. Her death gruesomely and sadly demonstrates that fact.

Doing It Down

It’s annoying when people Do The Stupid and I tell them how to Fix The Stupid and not Do The Stupid and they coincidentally and with no comprehension Do Some Other Stupid that fixes or, in most cases, hides the original Stupid and then are like, “I didn’t do what you said and it works!” With the implication there that I don’t know what I’m talking about.

In those cases I just say nothing, because what’s the point? I have infinitely more knowledge and capability than they do and I revel in that silently. Most of the time their Stupid returns with a vengeance. Then I laugh and no longer help at all.

Officious

An anti-remote work Australian mining CEO wants workers to stop stepping out for coffee: โ€˜I want to hold them captive all day long.โ€™

I’ve already said that much of the RTO push is that a lot of people genuinely want slaves. And that’s as close as they can get.

And as I’ve already said a million times, I’ll never, ever work in an office again. Not gonna happen. I’m twice as productive at home and I work longer hours. And have a better quality of life. It’s a win-win for everyone. Except those who want slaves.

Beyond the Nose

It’s so fucking odd when you comment that a fast food or other service industry worker’s pay should be higher and then some clown pipes up with, “Well, do you want your Whopper to be 25 cents more so some burger flipper can afford to rent an apartment?”

Yes, in fact I very much do want that. Because that would be good for the so-called burger flipper, for society and thus even for me. It improves everyone’s lives that people aren’t homeless and hungry, on the edge of poverty or beyond. It’s not even contestable. It’s completely obvious — that is unless you can’t see beyond your own damn nose enough to realize that you are not in fact the only one in the world who matters.

Mozy On

Here’s what’s going on with your Add-ons being disabled, and how to work around the issue until its fixed.

This is old, but just shows that no developer knows how I should use my own applications or devices better than I do. I just don’t care about what anyone else wants or needs, frankly, or about protecting dear ol’ grammy from sending her money to Nigeria. She is going to do that anyway and can’t a thing in this world stop her.

So get the fuck out of my way and let me do what I want to do. Mozilla sucks and has for a long time now. I wish there were any viable alternative not run by complete douchebags.

No Offense Possible

One of the main problems with modern feminism is that even a lot of women have bought into the idea that they (and all women) are divine creatures of pure light who can do no no wrong. Of course, as anyone with an ounce of sense knows, women are human and thus are just as capable of evil, cupidity and vanity as anyone.

Perhaps that belief in women’s innate goodness is fading a bit lately, but still there’s too much of the assumption that if a woman did something horrible she must have had a good reason for it (therefore, it is excused) but if a man did anything questionable, he’s detestable by nature and irredeemable — no matter if what the man did was to glance at a woman for 0.00001 of a second in a gym, while the woman raped an actual minor.

Feminism is really shooting itself in the face with this crap.

No-op

That is incredibly sad. But how does anyone get this far gone? I won’t even hand over $5 to grifters in parking lots for “gas.” I can’t imagine just sending some mook my entire fucking life savings and more. It simply does not compute.

Part of the reason I read the scams sub-reddit is to realize though I might’ve done some ill-advised things in my life, I’ll never do some shit like that.

Hold on, though. Alexandra Daddario is calling me on the other line, she probably needs some rent money again….

Timer Bins

Indeed, this is the actual effect of RTO policies:

RTO means terrible decision-making in general. So those companies would be doubly unpleasant to work for. Not only would they have bad management (as evinced by RTO), but the people working there will be shit because they’re the ones too incompetent or uncompetitive in the job marketplace to be hired anywhere without RTO policies.

Me, I get real recruiting offers nearly daily. I have vast choice. RTO me at your own peril. Won’t hurt me a bit to go work somewhere else for more money. And I will definitely provide benefit to whatever company is lucky enough to hire me.
