Certs Blurts

I wonder how many people actually have active CISSP and CCNP certs in the world? I’d guess a few thousand, if that, but I can find zero stats on it at all.

Maintaining them both is a real freakin’ hassle but worth it.

Hey Man

The shooter was 135 meters from Trump. And was a bad shot. With an AR-style rifle not even zeroed, I (and any semi-competent shooter) could have made that shot — twice. The reason for “twice” is that the AR has almost no recoil and it’s easy to get back on target within half a second or so, which is before the target has time to react (partially because bullets travel faster than the speed of sound).

I want to stress that I’m not being some kind of badass here. 135 meters at a human-size target just standing there from a prone position is so, so fucking easy. I was routinely hitting targets at 300 meters in the army, for example. It’s not some superhuman feat. The shooter was just a bad shot.

(Yes, technically, he grazed Trump. Still a bad shot.)

Variance

Something I think they don’t tell men about dating ever: the exact same action, practice, behavior or way of being one woman can describe as creepy and horrible while another woman can love, be strongly attracted to, or demand nothing less than.

And no one reveals this shit to you — you just learn it yourself. Though many guys give up first because I think most women don’t actually want you to know this (to reduce competition). There’s extremely, extremely high variance out there, though. Just FYI.

The Only Con I Like

Goddamn, gonna get up to 114 degrees today:

Glad our new (to us) air cons know how to get it done, or we’d be suffering. And with “air cons,” our new house has two of them so the plural is intentional and correct. Pretty sweet.

Normal People

Alice Munro.

So people are learning (or rather, not learning) that just because someone can write a cohesive, moving and catchy short story, that doesn’t make them a saint? I feel sorry for Munro’s daughter but not surprised to find that Munro is just a regular ol’ person, not a paragon of virtue. Because most people are not, and artists probably least of all to be fair.

That Munro is a “monster” is absurd. She just sounds run of the mill in her personal life, as are most people. Weak, entitled and prone to keep the status quo in place. Big shocker. As mentioned, I feel terrible for her daughter (and others affected) but Munro’s short stories in my view stand alone and apart from that, as does all art. Good artists can barely control what they emit, anyway, and its quality has nothing to do with what sort of person they were or how they lived their own lives (often horribly).

Daum’s bloviating sounds just as overproduced as the encomia that followed Munro’s death. And just as worthless.

Munro’s art stands on its own or does not. In my case, having enjoyed Munro’s work in the past, I just loaded a Munro collection on my Kobo and will read that in short order. On with the art, as always….

Forumation

Goddamn, I hope our military planners in the US and NATO are watching every single video in this sub-reddit.

That’s how you learn what a large part of the future of war is gonna be like. And then use that insight to make that future not suck as much for our side when we’re fighting China and Russia soon. It’s so, so much easier to learn not to do the stupid by watching other people and other countries do the stupid.

But alas it seems that most people and most countries must in fact fully do the stupid before they understand a damn thing. I’ve always done it the other way, though.

Anx

Are there people out there who straight up donโ€™t have anxiety?

I’ve never felt anxiety. I say that not knowing what it feels like, having just observed it in others and surmising that nothing like that has ever happened to me — not even the mild version. In fact, I am more comfortable in confrontation or dangerous situations than I am in calm or normal ones. (Though I do try to stay away from that type of shit these days.)

I don’t do this anymore, but I used to pretend to be anxious or nervous when I was “supposed” to be. Now I don’t bother and just be the real me.

The Mustache on Her

The Republicans’ idea of equality is everyone is equal as long as you’re white, male, kind of dumb, and drive a big, useless truck and bang on about how you like to run people over and that commie bike riders and pedestrians should get the hell out of the way.

The Democrats’ idea of equality is that how you behave and what you do in the world don’t really matter, as long as you speak the right words and are a good PMC bagholder. To them, a female Hitler would be a great example of an equitable outcome.
