I hope the new neighbors like a lot of Argentinian and Mexican female rap, cuz they’re gonna be hearing a lot of it this Fourth of July. What I was just playing loud, it rules harder than Catherine the Great.
Music Video
Una Tรญa Normal – GREX
There are so, so many fun Spanish-speaking women artists now.
Laurah Louisa
Not sure why this was recorded vertically, but what a great cover.
Phonical
What the hell did I just watch?
Foxes – Let Go For Tonight
Had never seen this vid before, though I’ve long liked Foxes; she writes perfect pop songs. Her eye color is really beautiful (nice close-ups there).
ืืื ื ืฆืจ – ืฉืื ืืื ืจืืฉืื
Cute pop song. I wish I understood Hebrew but I don’t have time to attempt to cram more of yet another language into my brain.
Nikita Lev – Nowhere Bar
Nikita is the best small artist I’ve found in the last few days.
I still feel like such a hipster because I watched Billie Eilish’s first original song YouTube video years ago now right after it was first posted. It had all of 15 views. You could just tell she had it. And she did.
Parasociality
I like Lea’s songs a lot, but I also like her personality. Intense and contemplative women have always been my jam so that makes sense. Good mic setup there too.
Good Boy Daisy – Shag Chateau
What a strange mix of people and a good song; I thought the lead singer was Keira Knightley gone goth when I just glanced at the thumbnail.
Sofia Gabanna – Twister
Esto es realmente bueno. Y me gustan sus lentes.
XANA – 19
What? How did I not know this song had a video? Such a great song and lovely vid.
Haim – Now I’m In It
Like a lot of Haim videos, the cinematography in this one is really great; I like the scenes of Danielle getting carwashed in particular.
Omg Did She Call Him Baby?
Really good song. And interestingly, if a man wrote a song like this about a woman he’d be accused of “only wanting sex” and not being a “real friend” even though what Beth here says is way more graphic than what a man would typically say about a woman friend he might have a crush on, e.g. “i keep dreaming of her tongue/her blue denim skirt undone.”
If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I really hate double standards and being looked at as an “unthinking sex beast” because I find a female friend attractive. Why for only men does that mean we’re being disingenuous and vile? The song of which this is a rewrite is not nearly so graphic because a man cannot get away with writing something like that.
Quod erat demonstrandum.
Nina Kohout – Flavoured & Eaten
That hits the spot.
Voices Carry – Kate Hudson
Wow! I had extremely low expectations for this. But she was amazing! Best cover of this I’ve ever heard. The alto sax & keyboards playing off one another work really well too.
