Overalls

I stole this from somewhere else (forgot where now), but it’s funny that anti-vax sentiment could only develop where vaccines were nearly ubiquitous and had been for a long time.

Otherwise, all the death and then averting it with vaccines would make it immediately clear the effectiveness of vaccination.

Humans are overall kinda stupid.

Pall

Shorty after it occurred, I watched the video of Iryna Zarutska’s murder. That was as bad as you’d expect. I won’t view it again.

Even worse, though, I saw a tribute video one of her friends made of them having fun together. Even more than the murder video, it was hard to view. All the possibilities and promise of her life, gone. All the futures, erased. I’ve seen, I don’t know, thousands of people die in battle now; I’ve spent entirely too much time on the Combat Footage sub-Reddit and other places as I try to figure out how we’ll be fighting in Poland in 2027. Combat, though, will have death. It’s as predictable as gravity. It’s offensive and horrible but there it’s just what happens.

It’s a whole different thing witnessing a young woman murdered on a train where she should’ve been safe, with said murder committed by a worthless scumbag who should not have even been there. Both are affronts to civilization, but the way Iryna was murdered is a denial of the value and purpose of civilization itself. She probably would’ve been better off (and still alive) if she’d stayed in Ukraine.

Charlie Kirk and Iryna Zarutska being murdered so near to one another in very public and horrifying ways is (pun intended) a turning point for the US, I think. We’re on some path that could (and likely will) lead to very bad things as the left goes full woke degwrother and the right seeks out revenge — while also having its own baneful degrowth tendencies.

Nearly all paths lead to ruin and disaster. We built those paths, though, so in reality it’s all our fault.

Bad Few

Well that’s bleak. But accurate. True of the rest of Europe, too. It’s going to be a bad few hundred years there.

Dismant

I’ve never, ever understood and never will how discussing cultural differences and caring about them is racist. I wouldn’t want a bunch of fucking Islamists migrating to the US no matter how lily-white they are. Keep them out; they just make everything worse as their culture is garbage. This is just as true of blonde-haired blue-eyed Muslims as it is of anyone darker.

Of course in reality, the left uses accusations of “racism” as cover for their project of dismantling Western civilization. Which, overall, is going pretty well for them — especially in Europe.

What the Dickens

That is an extremely easy passage, I agree. In a normal world I’d consider that to be what 4th-6th graders should be able to handle.

We do not live in that world.ย

There is just nothing very complex or intellectually challenging there, especially if you can use Google. That university students in the US cannot make sense of it is fucking appalling and an indictment of us all.

Systems

Is it just me or a “sys admin” now needs to be licensed in literally everything in existence and beyond nowadays JUST to be employed with an inhumane workload?

This isn’t exaggeration. To some extent, sysadmin types have always been expected to know more and do more than any other role. In some places we’re required to be subject matter experts in dozens of different IT domains, have great customer service skills for all the escalations, and master completely-unrelated areas of expertise such as electrician work, HVAC, plumbing, facilities tasks, and even carpentry.

But in the last decade or thereabout, it’s gotten so, so much worse. We’re expected to be expert developers in a dozen different languages while being full-time developer support, be masters of security, networking, design, architecture, three or four different cloud providers, and still be capable of all the other stuff above. And so much more.

I’m extremely smart. Not a brag, or if it is who gives a damn. Anyway, I’m in something like the 99.998th percentile. And I find keeping up with all of the above challenging. People who don’t have brains that big simply cannot do it.

Will AI help? I have my doubts. It just makes dumber people screw up faster and in less predictable ways from what I can tell.

This rant doesn’t have a point, really. Just some fulmination into the void.

For some reason, I don’t really give a crap about “stolen valor” even though I’m proud of what I did and achieved in the military.

But if someone wants to claim they did something they didn’t? Sure, whatever. It’s just not a concern of mine. I know what I did and that’s what matters to me.

Entirely too much of so-called liberalism and progressivism is about the joy (for them) of taking things away from people — anything fun, modern conveniences, air conditioning. If it makes life better, you’re not doing proper penance, so it must be excised.

It’s a horrible, evil sickness. And it seems to be worsening.
