How do you define a โtrue lockdownโ? Welded shut in a Wuhan apartment building? Self-declaration forms to go shopping in Paris or Milan? Locking children out of school for 1.5 years in Richmond? https://t.co/6qVRDesI0H

Iโve gotten in this argument with people before. Some define โlockdownโ as โyou die in your apartment because you canโt get foodโ as the only true lockdown. Some define it as โyou can only go out once a day.โ Some define it as โyou can only go out once a week for an hour.โ I think any significant restriction where most places are closed counts as lockdown and most of the US did experience that. Most of the UK did for 9 months or longer. Lockdown only works well in certain narrow circumstances, though. Itโs not magic and itโs not a long-term solution.
I hope the "we could have just locked down hard for two weeks and eliminated this thing" people are looking at what's happening in Shanghai.

Exactly.
