Date

Fuck all this.

Date whoever you want to, as long as you wonโ€™t go to jail for it.

Iโ€™m always surprised by how willing are most people to constrain themselves when it only hurts them.

Much of it is of course about social policing and eliminating competition in age cohorts since despite the fact that people hate hearing it, the dating pool is actually competitive.

Anyway, glad I donโ€™t really have to worry about any of that shit anymore.

  1. I always thought the creeper rule was an implicit acknowledgment of power dynamics in relationships and how fucked up can be when someone with a lot of power dates someone with a lot less power. Since older men usually have so much power than younger women.

    • There is that aspect of it, and it’s worth considering.

A lot of the time, though, it seems to be far less focused on protecting anyone and far more about social policing.

That I’ve been policed for it in the past — for dating older women, not younger — probably makes me react to articles like that more strongly than I probably should.

    • Oops, meant to add that when I see it directed at women, it’s usually more about controlling/policing them rather than protection. That’s what bothers me about it in general.

    • I haven’t read it or seen it yet. But I think I saw it discussed on your blurblog perhaps, and that got me interested in it. We’ll probably watch it Saturday. So thanks!
