Itโs been a losing battle, and one Iโm tired of fighting โ when Mozilla/Firefox finally disallows XUL and XPCOM add-ons, I will stop using Firefox and switch to either Chromium or Chrome (havenโt decided yet).
When Firefox becomes a complete knock-off of Chrome without any ability to even customize it, what reason is there to use Firefox? The Mozilla Foundation simply does not possess the resources, the interest or the future of a company as large as Alphabet. All the things Firefox is attempting, Chrome always has and will continue to do better. I expect further mass abandonment of Firefox at that time, too, as all the power users jump ship with me.
I can control privacy with firewalling, mostly, keeping myself safe from Chromeโs data thieving.
Firefox has no future due to the parent organizationโs own poor decisions. And Iโm tired of fighting to customize it. When whatever version breaks XUL add-ons is released, that will be my last day using it.
I don’t customize my extensions as much as you do, but I am worried one of the ones I rely on will go away. I do like Servo and feel like they’re going to be making stuff faster & safer.
I like the idea of Servo too, but the obsession with security above all else will not end well for Mozilla which simply IMO can’t compete on this front. It’s a guaranteed loss and by walking over to Chrome’s field and choosing to compete there, it’s like me walking over from the human fighting pit to the Tyrannosaurus fighting pit and giving it a go — not too likely to win or even to live, really.
