I tend to think people on this site love language too much. Regardless of what side they fall on regarding taboo words or whether you *need* theory, they all have this fetishization of what I consider to just be tools

That’s because Twitter (and large parts of the non-normie internet) are chockablock with academics and journalists. These people worship words and think the world consists of lexemes and their logic. While words and language are not unimportant, this view is certainly very cloistered and leads people to believe they are involved in “activism” and “changing the world” when in reality they are just faffing about purposelessly, being worse than useless.
