John Gruber on Marc Andreesen’s “It’s Time To Build” essay.

I find this essay inspiring, and I’m baffled — but unsurprised — that anyone considers it controversial.

Building is not cool, John. At least 80% of the hatred for Elon Musk — despite there being plenty of other things to hate him for — is because he runs companies that build objects in the physical world. If he ran companies that turned liberal Twitter streams into cat-based fonts or some shit like that, they’d be lining up to sing hosannas to his name.

This contempt is indeed mostly from “liberals,” by the way. As I’ve noted before, those who swim in a sea of words generally despise any deplorables who dare to manipulate dirty physical matter to produce anything. It’s just so louche and filthy, dontcha know. I mean, ugh, touching dirty things is what the noble “undocumented” slave labor liberal mascots lawn workers do.
