The New Puritans. The attack on congressional candidate Alex Morse for consensual sexual relationships is disturbing for many reasons, but mostly because it reveals a new American phobia toward adulthood.

Liberals have gotten weird and strange, more so than I ever thought possible. It really won’t be long before they are advocating chaperoned dates, mandatory chastity, and that women be accompanied everywhere by a male relative.

Therefore, just as a child or, say, a St. Bernard cannot consent to sex, neither apparently can an adult college student with an uncertain job future. And given that consent is โ€œcomplicatedโ€ when such a โ€œlopsided power dynamicโ€ comes into play, itโ€™s no wonder that the actual encounters could be harrowing โ€“ even when, as the Boston Globe explained, the victims were not even aware of that โ€œpower imbalanceโ€ at the time

It’s just all so odd. I read about it, and I feel like I’m reading about aliens pretending to be humans.

Constant preaching that all human interactions are political contests, with one side always getting the better of the other, has made a whole generation phobic about adulthood.

This mirrors my thoughts. These people see all interactions as predator/prey, with nothing else possible. It’s the world in which they’ve grown up, so it’s hard to blame them fully. But I still blame them, because one can always choose not to be a dumbass.

Mozilla cuts 250 jobs, says Firefox development will be affected.

Mozilla, as I predicted, is effectively dead now. No press release will say this, but I am telling you. This kills off most of the development of the browser, by the way. That’s what “developer tools, internal tooling, and platform feature development” means. That means Servo (the next-gen browser engine) is gone and much of Firefox development just won’t happen anymore.

Fuck them. They screwed over themselves and they deserve what’s happening to them.

People like me told them exactly where they were going wrong, what not to do, and how to avoid this fate, and they went and did it anyway. The nail in the coffin was of course killing off the powerful extensions they once offered and choosing the path of fake security with no customizability.

Told you so.

We had been stocking up since February. Not clairvoyant. The precautionary principle in combination with an understanding of how systems work gets you a long, long way.

I won’t always be right, but I’ll always be prepared and in better stead than most people because of this. Amazing how a little thinking saves a lot of pain.

Parasocial relationships depend on the illusion of a care interaction and some “there” being there. Frequent updates (nudes, blog posts, whatever) help to foster this ersatz relationship and makes people feel you care about them somehow.

The nudes don’t actually matter — that you are their pseudo-friend/lover etc. is what matters. For lonely people, having an attractive woman pay any sort of attention to them is like crack.

Until fairly recently, I used to get this too! It’s the peril of looking younger than your actual age. It’s certainly worse for women. A lot of it is caused by companies wanting to underpay you.

I think ebikes are awesome but I’d never even consider riding one on US streets, pretty much ever. I’d rather be alive than dead and riding one one on US streets is what you do if you have a deathwish — because many drivers will be actively trying to kill you.
