High Cost

I wonder how often it’s true that people like this who claim masks have no cost are non-neurotypical people who have trouble reading facial expressions and the like?

Because masks have very high costs from my persective. I have a lot of difficulty understanding others when they speak, I can’t easily determine their emotional state, and I myself cannot breathe or think very well.

Cyclic

Absolutely it does. How many times have I heard the odious phrase “completely safe,” usually spouted unironically by someone who pilots an oversized SUV like they were Evel fucking Knievel? Way way too many times.

The religion of complete safety is like believing the Tooth Fairy is real, but you’re even less likely to get your expected reward.

This is the correct way to do things:

Can’t Take No Mow

People say the suburbs are quiet but mostly they aren’t, especially during the day. It’s probably worse in Florida, but nearly every day there’s mowing/leaf-blowing/sawing for at least 2-3 hours loud enough to interfere with work meetings. Sometimes, it’s even more hours than that.

I don’t know why people have such an obsession with lawns and fucking around with them, but it’s such a huge waste of time and resources.

Team Down

Exactly. Anyway, like any good teammate, she bowed out not to (primarily) protect herself but to protect the team and its chances when she knew she couldn’t perform well. You’d think all these tough guys who claim to have played football and whatever in high school would understand that.

Working Now

But the mega-SURGE OF DOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, there is a surge, but not the prophecied mega-surge of doom — because the vaccines fucking work.

Spaced In

Think how Big Angry it’d make (modern) liberals if we had it my way and reversed the DoD and NASA budgets — that is, gave NASA the DoD budget and vice versa.

Dang the tears would be delicious. Not as great as what NASA could do with $800 billion per annum, of course, but still delicious.

Not So Strange

Something strange is happening in Britain. Covid cases are plummeting instead of soaring.

I fail to understand why this is strange? Vaccination rate is quite high in the UK. It’s getting into the warm season there. This is kind of what I’d expect to happen when there aren’t huge unvaccinated areas as there are in the US. I just do not understand at all why this is surprising.

It was completely obvious the experts were going to be wrong about this. And they were. Doom-mongering is fun but it doesn’t make you right. If we’d achieved just a little higher vaccination rate and more uniform coverage in the US, we’d be in the same fortunate situation.

Public health experts, alongside the government, predicted that cases would be rising in Britain at this point, perhaps even exponentially.

Charles Stross and his lockdown lifers and prison country-lovin’ fellow lib dipshits were all wrong.

Two days later, dubbed โ€œFreedom Dayโ€ by the press, Prime Minister Boris Johnsonโ€™s government ended almost all government mandates in England for mask-wearing and social distancing. Pubs are serving pints at the rail and night clubs have reopened with maskless youths packed on the dance floors. Viral defense is now a โ€œpersonal choice.โ€

And so some of the best infectious-disease modelers on the planet warned that 100,000 new cases a day this summer could be expected.

Let’s see how the lockdown lifers handle the end of the worst of the pandemic, and the destruction of their insane ideology. It’s not going to be pretty. But mostly, they’ll only be able to harm themselves and that’s just fine. Amusing, even.

Un moment d’รฉgarement

I was watching French film trailers earlier and found this one. Can you imagine this being made in North America? People would lose their fucking minds! Libs would go so apeshit ragefest they’d blast off to the moon.

That said, I’m not sure the film actually looks good. I’ll give it a shot and if it doesn’t hook me in the first 15 minutes, I’ll move on to something else. (It’s a remake of an older film, by the way.)
