I bet a lot of the explanation for the rise in massively-oversized vehicles on American roads is that Americans themselves are now fucking huge and often those cars and trucks are all they can really fit in.

This is reported almost nowhere but I think it probably explains 60-80% of the prevalence of absurdly enormous vehicles on the roads. This is yet one more negative consequence of obesity and another way it indirectly harms and kills people.
