I was there. Exercise/gym clothing was much much much much much more revealing in the 1980s, for women and men. This was in pre-prudish times, so of course it was.

It was not at all uncommon to see a woman wearing basically a bikini and working out back then. I remember glancing at some woman working out in a park about 1988 or so and I couldn’t tell right away if she had any clothes on at all. She did, but just barely.
