Who should be responsible for training users?
Weirdly, the IT department is often responsible for training users on nearly everything โ even areas that have 0.0% to do with computers other than a computer is involved somewhere or other peripherally. Itโs odd. Iโve trained lawyers on how to do legal-related items they should 100% know how to do. Iโve shown accountants how to do accounting work. Iโve shown other professionals how to achieve things that were absolutely in no way in my bailiwick and I have should absolutely zero knowledge about.
These days, I fully refuse to conduct this sort of training. I am not a lawyer or an accountant or a nurse. But the problem, as Iโve observed before, is that the IT department often has the only generally competent people within it so they become a dumping ground for anything at all that requires any sort of abstract thinking or anything other than rote procedure following.
Donโt do this sort of training. It is the managerโs responsibility, not ITโs, to show a lawyer how to lawyer and the like.
