Sally Fourth

The Fourth Kind is a movie that to this day still leaves me incredibly unsettled.

Such a great film that was at the time poorly-reviewed for some reason and is still criminally underrated. I rave about this movie all the time. I do not understand why it got destroyed by reviewers when it was released. I think it might have been because instead of some straightforward alien abduction story, you got something very metatextual, with layers of symbolism and just an unrelenting sense of dread. And tragedies that arenโ€™t historical period pieces never seem to get good notices.

The โ€œactual footageโ€ is also just so incredibly well-conceived and -executed. And the part where the psychiatrist protag sets up a tape recorder to capture whatโ€™s going on as sheโ€™s sleeping and then hears herself screaming hysterically but recalls none of it when she wakes upโ€ฆJesus fuck, that is one of my favorite scenes in any movie. Absolute nightmare fuel.

Milla Jovovich is also excellent in this. What a treat this film was the first time I watched it, especially since I knew nearly nothing about it going in.
