Also, the block editor is incredibly, horribly slow. It runs about 1/20 as fast as the classic editor. Sometimes my input lags 2-4 characters behind my typing. And it’s slow in all other ways, too. It’s just so bad I’d think it was a joke if someone demoed to me and I didn’t know anything about it.
But it’s a real product someone released with full knowledge. The world is run by the mediocre.
The main difference between old and new WordPress is that back in 2012 I could set up WordPress, add a theme and mess around with CSS for an hour or two and have a good-looking site in less than three hours. With Gutenberg and block editing, from scratch to produce something similar would now take 1-2 weeks of work on it 6-8 hours a day. Even with experience, it’d take just about that long because nothing is “canned” anymore. You have to create it all; nearly nothing is provided. And if you don’t know CSS, you’re totally screwed.
While I am smart enough to understand and work with the terrible block editing “features” and all of that, themes no longer work so as mentioned everything is completely custom. It’s part of attempting to make everyone into a developer. Similar to how Firefox broke all their extensions, the assclowns at Automattic decided that they knew better than their users and foisted something off on everyone that was “better,” but didn’t actually work particularly well for anyone.
The enshiffication train is picking up speed all the time.

Now that is fucking funny. Will probably move off of WordPress, but I am not sure to what. No one makes anything anymore that works well for blogs. It’s not a thing the scam economy supports.
The WordPress block editing “feature” sucks so much. It’s so very poorly designed. I see what they were going for and they failed. Could’ve been good but just was not. Utter fail in every way possible. It’s what happens when idiots design something.
I know it’s been said a million times by a million people, but I do find it funny that so many people buy trucks with those tiny beds that can’t haul anything and then think that makes them more manly or whatever.
They just look like a fool is all — a fool who bought something far less useful than any alternative.
The 1963 Cleopatra movie itself was only ok, but the entrance scene into Rome is great. That’s not even the whole thing. It used ~10,000 extras and nearly bankrupted the studio. It’s not all that historically accurate, but it still captures something real about how those times differed from our own.
Why even have a degree now and days?

Lord, this paper is a mess. So, let me get this straight — if you include countries in the “Global North” that are approximately 10% of the world’s population, then the other 90% of countries produce 90% of the shit? Shock me harder, daddy.

In EXIOBASE, several of the IMF’s ’advanced economies’ (Singapore, San Marino, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Macao SAR, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Monaco, Bermuda, Andorra and New Zealand) are aggregated into regions, such as ’Rest of Europe’, ’Rest of Asia’, etc. We were, therefore, compelled to include these countries in our ‘global South’ category.
What a damn joke. And yes, I did read the whole paper. It’s bad. It’s very bad. I can’t even judge its conclusions because its data is such junk. Could be true, could be false, who the fuck knows? GIGO.
