Russia’s war dead tops 70,000 as volunteers face ‘meat grinder.’

It’s far more than that. 70K is just a bare minimum that the BBC was able to account for using public info. That misses the majority. I’d estimate the actual Russian war dead at 150-200K and 80-100K on the Ukrainian side. Others agree.

The BBC estimate is a baseline that omits too much to be all that useful.
