One of the reasons I don’t walk on trails that also allow bike riders is that those clowns can and will knock you over from behind while riding 20+ mph. Bike riders are a danger to themselves and others — they are almost as bad as car drivers.
Oh wow they’re CLIPPED IN. I swear that the guys making bikes their identity care more about gear than actually riding. Back in my teenage years where a bike was what I used to get to places, 30-40km/h was cruise speed in street clothes and street shoes on a 20kg supermarket bike, and this was accomplished without barrelling into pedestrians. It’s really simple, I feel. You move at traffic speeds, you go share the road with the rest of the traffic rather than the sidewalk with 80 yo grannies, toddlers toddling around, loosely leashed dogs etc.
For sure, it can be done. Many countries that aren’t the US have good biking cultures. But the US has too many jerks for that to work well I think, either with cars or bikes.
Oh this was Eastern Europe in the 00s, I’m pretty sure we had more jerks than you guys. Shit could be pretty scary, especially for a girl. However it was still pretty obvious that if I wanted to ride my bike at traffic speeds rather than strolling thru the park speeds I didn’t belong on a sidewalk, let alone what appears to be a park. Good thing it was a skateboarder he crashed into rather than a running kid…
