This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.
I have some bootleg DVDs I bought in China, too. Their descriptions are also of a similar nature, but not this epic.

The more I read, the more it becomes clear: America has problems, but Europe is absolutely fucked on many different axes with almost no possible escape.
That is not going to be pretty.
The 100 best novels of all time.
Cool. I have read every one of these.
My least favorites of that list: Ulysses and Jane Eyre. Both pretty boring pretentious crap.
My favorites: Never Let Me Go, My Brilliant Friend (is far better in Italian), and Frankenstein.
Not as bad a list as these typically are, at least.
One of the best feelings in my career I’ve ever had is when I was doing part-time work for a small company — handling their networking, infrastructure, and all tech-related stuff outside of programming.
The owner called me up in a panic saying the company would probably have to cease operations because all their data was completely gone, encrypted by ransomware. The owner was taken aback when I laughed and said I’d have them back up in a couple of hours, max.
And I did have them back to full operations around two hours later. If in my field you do not have great backups, you have nothing. And my backup game is beyond solid. I will never lose your data if you put me in charge of it, or allow it to be lost.
It’s just not gonna happen.
Clownish idiot third worldism.

That is right. I am old enough to remember when if you went on a cruise, you were rich.

Too many women are like, “OMG men find attractive women attractive and that should be banned (unless it’s me)!”
Like, do you even hear yourself? Of course not. People with any self-awareness and a clue about life don’t act like a loser prat.
I’m all for more almonds and more datacenters. Both are good. We need abundance everywhere.
Fuck degrowthers. May they all die drowning in patchouli.
Indeed. Franรงois Fleuret’s take is fucking moronic; Misha is correct. Franรงois (as many STEM people do) has it exactly backwards.
It’s remarkable how much better and easier time I have had understanding the genesis, consequences and operation of generative AI than the Hacker News types. And that’s because I’ve spent nearly forty years studying philosophy. It’s an enormous difference. I’m prepared for the new world. Meanwhile, they will forever be far behind me.
People make their jobs their entire identity in ways I cannot comprehend or even empathize with.
I have absolutely no insight into that at all.
I worked helpdesk and near-helpdesk for many years, and I’d say maybe 10% of users know undo and redo (CTRL+Z and CTRL +Y on Windows). It might be less than that these days as real computer users dwindle. It’s nowhere near 100%. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s likely 2-5% currently.

I agree with Kat that this dumbass take that “writing about something is condoning and endorsing it” is not exclusive to liberals, but it has become far more prominent among them over the past decade or more. Gen Z seems incapable of understanding fiction at all, and believes that anything written about no matter the context must 100% match the feelings and desires of the author.
Art is doomed with this attitude. I cannot understand why this absurdly clownish belief became culturally mainstream, but it is now. And the world and art is vastly worse because of it.
One of the reasons it was difficult finding a long-term partner is that not only am I very picky in general (and women hate that1), it’s that I required someone within less than one SD of my own IQ, or we could just not have meaningful conversations. And I value those, so it was a pretty hard requirement.
When I was actively dating, I figured out there were only roughly 200,000 women in the US who exceeded that intelligence barrier.
So, yes, I got very lucky indeed. The number of available, clever, sexy, funny and interesting women with stratospherically-high IQs is always exceedingly small, but I did find one. And completely by accident, too.
Lucky me!
