Gen Z and the wokesters demand art that perfectly conforms to their beliefs and naïve intuitions about how the world should work. But good art is supposed to change you. If you don’t walk out of a cinema or a museum or a play or a symphony feeling like at least somewhat of a different person with an altered set of possibilities arrayed before you, that art has failed.

Instead of being changed by art, Gen Z and the woke crowd demand that art be a mirror that shows only their own reflection.

That is not what art is for.
