Was There

memetic_sisyphus on X: "COVID is such a funny topic for anyone who has a memory longer than 6 years. The right at the beginning was concerned about this disease and called for locking down travel from infected countries. The left called this racist, Nancy Pelosi went to China town and told people to hug" / X

I remember all of that! I also had friends messaging me at the start of the pandemic claiming that masks donโ€™t work who later became extremely, ardently pro-masking. And you know what, itโ€™s ok to change your mind given new evidence or in this case re-evaluation of the existing data.

What I object to is when someone treats me like the bad guy for being able to recall quite recent history, even if it paints people in a negative light. That I strongly refuse to play along with.

I wonโ€™t call them out by name, but I also had a friend (who is still a friend) insist that no one had ever said โ€œhug a Chinese personโ€ and that it did not happen that for two months the liberals claimed that believing Covid was a threat was racist. But all that stuff occurred. I remember; I was there. A lot of it is now โ€œconspiracy-theorizedโ€ and memory-holed and more will be in the future as the truth is sanded down to what feels good.
