One reason I still really despise Amanda Marcotte is her claiming (as she was herself a bully then) that nerdy types were not “really” bullied during the 1980s and 1990s and that it was all made up. Meanwhile, anyone nerdy or at all different was beat on hard enough often to require hospitalization back in those days. This was not infrequent, either. It was incredibly common then.

In fact, my cousin was bullied so badly he chose to commit suicide. According to her none of that occurred. Fucking evil idiot.

There were days between 5th and 9th grade where I was in three different fights a day. Sometimes I was incredibly exhausted when I got home just from fighting. And of course bloodied. I still carry those scars as evidence.
