Wrong. Housing is extremely heavily subsidized in harmful ways by the government indirectly: the Fed buying up bundles of mortgages, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac backstopping loans that would otherwise be unprofitable to make, and a long history of too-low interest rates. Those are all subsidies that greatly pushed up housing costs.
