I love this song, but I could never figure out what’s going on with her accent in it. The way she sings ‘our’ and a few other words (also with r’s in them) sound more Irish than American.
She doesn’t talk that way and doesn’t sound that way in other songs, just this one. Weird.
To me, it sounds like she goes into heavy Arkansan when she’s singing that song. Most Southerners drop their “Rs” or greatly reduce their presence, but Arkansans emphasize or even insert “r” sounds to words without them. Sounds like she’s leaning on those Rs in true Arkansas style, but hard enough that the characters next to them need some more kerning work done.
